Training log examples: Motor vehicle mechatronics technician (Kraftfahrzeugmechatroniker/in), passenger car technology
The training log of a vehicle mechatronics technician records which work you did on which vehicle: servicing, troubleshooting, repair. The first year is about inspections, simple assemblies and measuring, later come the on-board electrics, engine management, chassis, brakes and preparing vehicles for inspections. If your company takes part in inter-company courses, they get their own entries. The examples show one week from each of the four years.

Example weeks
This is what one week in the training log can look like. Always write your own entries about what you actually did. The form itself stays German, as it is submitted in German.
Year 1 Inspection and tyre change
Changed wheels with a torque wrench, checked tyre tread and pressure and logged them
Measured brake pads and discs and documented the result in the job order
Tidied the workshop and disposed of waste oil and old parts by type
LF 2: Measuring with calipers and micrometers
Year 2 Troubleshooting the on-board electrics
Removed and replaced the alternator, fitted a new serpentine belt
Narrowed down a failed low beam using the wiring diagram: fuse, relay, bulb
Read the fault memory with the diagnostic tool and discussed the entries with the journeyman
LF 5: Planning additional work on customer vehicles
Year 3 Brake and chassis repair
Replaced a tie rod end and an anti-roll bar link, prepared the wheel alignment
Test drive for a function check, checked braking performance on the test bench
Completed the job and handed the documentation to the service advisor
LF 9: Comfort and safety systems, airbag basics
Year 4 Repairing the drivetrain and preparing for the journeyman exam
Replaced the clutch on a manual gearbox and ran a function test
Practised a typical exam task at work: troubleshooting an engine management system
Discussed the procedure and tasks of the journeyman exam with my trainer

Tips for this training log
- Name the vehicle type and assembly, but no number plates or customer names: “Front brake discs and pads, car” is enough.
- Put the measured values in your log, such as remaining pad thickness or charging voltage. It shows you checked and did not just wrench.
- Record inter-company courses and safety briefings as separate entries, not within the workshop hours.
- When troubleshooting, note the path: symptom, test step, cause, remedy. That is exactly what examiners ask about later.
Common mistakes
- “Repaired car” with no detail on what exactly and with what result. Nobody can follow that.
- Entering workshop hours without regard to school days, so the weekly total does not match the working time.
- Writing all the weeks from memory at the end. The measured values and steps are then made up.
