Training log examples: Electrician, energy and building technology (Elektroniker/in, Energie- und Gebäudetechnik)

The training log of electronics technicians for energy and building technology is about installation work, measurements and tests. Name the work steps, cable types and measured values, and never leave out safety measures. The first year covers cables, connections and simple circuits, later years distribution boards, controls and building systems. In the final year come customer jobs, test reports and preparation for the journeyman exam.

Tips for this training log

  • Write down cable type, cross-section and measured values, for example “NYM-J 5x1.5 mm² laid” or “insulation resistance above 1 MΩ”. That sounds professional and can be checked.
  • Record safety measures: when you isolated, secured and verified that the circuit was de-energised. Your trainer looks for this.
  • Enter VDE tests and the instruments used. If you practise test reports in your log, the journeyman exam is easier.
  • Include fault finding: what was the fault, how did you find it and how was it fixed?

Common mistakes

  • Only “laid cables” or “did installation”. Without cable type, room and work step the entry says nothing.
  • Not mentioning safety rules although you worked on installations. It stands out when your log is read.
  • Mixing school days and work days so that the hours of the week do not add up.
