Working hours
"Work from home today, but don't keep asking."
You are supposed to work from home — without tasks, without a contact person.
§ 14 BBiG / § 28 BBiG
It depends …
Mobile training is allowed — leaving you alone is not.
You have no right to work from home, and the company may not simply send you home if your contract does not provide for it. Mobile training is permitted, however, if it serves the training goal and you are actually trained there: with tasks from the training plan, a reachable trainer and feedback (§ 14 (1) BBiG). The company must provide the necessary hardware and software free of charge (§ 14 (1) no. 3 BBiG). The Working Hours Act, breaks and maximum limits apply at home just the same.
What the law says
§ 14 (1) no. 1 BBiG – Duty to train
Trainers must ensure that professional competence is taught in a planned way, structured in time and content.
§ 14 (1) no. 3 BBiG – Training materials
Training materials must be provided free of charge; for digital mobile training also the necessary hardware and software.
What you can do
- Ask for fixed tasks and a fixed time when your trainer can be reached.
- The company provides the laptop, software and access — you do not have to buy anything.
- Record in your training log what you learned while working from home.
- Breaks and end of work apply at the kitchen table too.

Subject: Support while working from home
Dear [name of trainer],
I am scheduled to work from home on [days]. So that the time is useful for my training, I would ask for specific tasks from the training plan and a fixed time when I can ask questions.
I also need [device / access] to do the tasks (§ 14 (1) no. 3 BBiG).
Kind regards
[Your name]
