Termination
"A reference? You don't need that!"
Your boss refuses to issue you a training reference.
§ 16 BBiG
The boss may NOT do that
Yes you do! You are entitled to one!
On termination of the training relationship, the training company must issue you a reference (§ 16 BBiG). This is mandatory and not optional! The reference must include details of the type, duration and goal of the training as well as the skills acquired. At your request, also conduct and performance (a qualified reference).
What the law says

What you can do
- You are entitled to a simple reference (mandatory) or a qualified reference (on request).
- The reference must be worded benevolently and must not harm you.
- Request it in writing and with a deadline if it does not arrive.
- Do you know the "reference code language"? Have your reference checked by professionals.
