Duties

"From now on you drive the deliveries."

You have a driving licence and are supposed to drive the company car regularly.

§ 14 Abs. 3 BBiG / Grundsätze der Arbeitnehmerhaftung

It depends …
Occasionally yes, if it fits your occupation — not as a permanent task.
Driving can be part of the training, e.g. when you take material to a site or to a customer. But if you become the regular driver for deliveries that have nothing to do with your occupation, that is an activity outside the training (§ 14 (3) BBiG). Important for you: you are not liable without limit for damage to the company car. Under the principles of employee liability, the company bears slight negligence alone, moderate negligence is shared, and only for gross negligence or intent do you pay most of it. For trainees, inexperience is taken into account as well. You must pay fines for your own traffic offences yourself. The car must be roadworthy and insured.

What the law says

§ 14 (3) BBiG – Purpose of training
Trainees may only be given tasks that serve the purpose of the training.
BAG Grand Senate 27 Sep 1994 – GS 1/89
For work-related activities, the employee is liable according to the degree of fault; not at all for slight negligence.

What you can do

  1. Ask whether and how the car is comprehensively insured — and who pays the excess.
  2. Before every trip, briefly check tyres, lights and load, and report defects in writing.
  3. Note trips in your training log with the training link (customer, material, job).
  4. For pure courier runs: politely point to the training plan.
