"I'll sign the training log sometime."
Your trainer has not signed off your records for months.
§ 14 Abs. 2 BBiG / § 43 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 BBiG
The boss may NOT do that
Reviewing is mandatory — missing records can cause admission problems.
Your trainer must review your training records regularly (§ 14 (2) BBiG); in practice that means countersigning them. If they let it slide, that is their breach of duty, not yours. It becomes critical before the final exam: only those who have submitted the required records are admitted (§ 43 (1) no. 2 BBiG). Many chambers check the signatures. So: keep your log complete and without gaps, submit it regularly and note when you submitted it. If the signature still does not come, contact the IHK/HWK early.
What the law says
§ 14 (2) BBiG – Review
Trainers must encourage trainees to keep training records and review them regularly.
§ 43 (1) no. 2 BBiG – Admission
Anyone who has submitted the required written or electronic training record is to be admitted to the final exam.
What you can do
- Submit the records at a fixed rhythm, e.g. monthly — and note the date.
- A digital training log with an approval link makes signing off easier for your trainer.
- Signatures missing shortly before exam registration: ask the IHK/HWK immediately.
- Do not rewrite anything that has already been signed off.
